On Friday, Feb. 24, the PSU Choirs and Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony under conductor Ken Selden and choir director Ethan Sperry. National speaker on effective teaching
Maryellen Weimer, author and expert on effective college teaching, will discuss "Assumptions that Foster Instructional Growth" at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in 236 Smith Union. Endowment earns better than average return
The investment return on Portland State's endowment has out performed similarly sized university endowments, according to the 2011 findings of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Data gathered from 823 U.S. colleges and universities showed an average endowment return of 19.4 percent for the 2011 fiscal year for endowments in the range of $25 to $50 million. The PSU Foundation's endowment totaled $40.9 million as of June 30, 2011, and the fiscal-year return was 23.2 percent—3.8 percent higher than other universities.
Library puts its ancient print collection on display
"The Envious Tooth of Time: Early Printed Works from the PSU Library Special Collections" is on exhibit in the Millar Library, first floor, through March 23. Reflecting the expression "envious tooth," an early modern European term for surviving the relentless gnawing of time, the exhibit includes works from the 15th through 18th centuries. Special collections latest acquisition, a rare 1613 edition of Cesare Ripas' Iconologia, is also on display. Jesse Locker, PSU assistant professor of art, curates the exhibit.
Seeking applicants for Graduate Studies dean
The Office of Academic Affairs is conducting an internal search for the position of Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies to lead the Office of Graduate Studies, the campus unit primarily responsible for administering graduate education at PSU. This full-time, 12-month position is under the Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Instruction in the Office of Academic Affairs. The appointment is available July 1, 2012. Read more >
