THE LAST CURRENTLY for the 2009-10 academic year will be published electronically Tuesday, June 1. Deadline for that issue is Tuesday noon, May 25. Currently will be published once in midsummer and will resume weekly publication in the fall.

 

Heart warming and wrenching play opens this week

Crimes of the Heart, a poignant, touching story of family, opens Friday, May 28, and continues through June 5 at the Winningstad Theatre. Professor Glenn Gauer both directs and provides scenic design for the Portland State production.

A 1981 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Beth Henley, performances of Crimes of the Heart are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 30, at 2 p.m. The Winningstad is located at 1111 SW Broadway. Tickets are $8 for PSU employees and non-PSU students and are available at the PSU Box office or at the door.

 

Celebrating 10 years of Civic Engagement awards

The University and its community partners celebrated 10 years of honoring civic engagement with more than 100 awards for exemplary projects. PSU's Civic Engagement Awards grew out of the University's long and deep commitment to serving the community, PSU President Wim Wiewel said at the May 19 awards celebration. Read more >

 

OUS seeks extension of expenditure limitation

This week, the Oregon University System is requesting an increase of $76 million in the Oregon University System expenditure limitation from the Emergency Board of the Oregon Legislature. OUS is seeking approval to spend revenue from this year's enrollment growth, said Chancellor George Pernsteiner, "to teach students it already has and be able to enroll students who are applying for fall term admittance." Faculty survey results incomplete

Results of a Portland State faculty and staff survey released earlier this month were incomplete. The Faculty Senate steering committee is still analyzing the data on faculty priorities that will help the PSU administration develop plans for the 2010-11 fiscal year. A final report on the survey and the top priorities will be released in the coming weeks, faculty leaders said.

 

Coach to hold girls basketball camp this summer

Basketball coach Sherri Murrell and players fresh off the Big Sky Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance are holding a basketball camp for girls in grades 3 to 8 from June 28 through July 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Peter Stott Center. Fun basketball skills, drills, daily competitions, and 5-on-5 games are planned. Cost is $200 for those who register before June 21.
