Program wins Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter award

The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation has chosen Portland State's Community Watershed Stewardship program as one of three finalists for its first ever national Award for Community-Campus Partnerships. Sir John Ball to give Maseeh lecture

Oxford mathematician Sir John Ball will describe the colorful events surrounding Russian Grigori Perelman's 2006 refusal of the Field's Medal for mathematics at the annual Maseeh lecture Thursday, May 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. at University Place, 310 SW Lincoln. Get a taste of other cultures this Friday

This year's International Night is all about singing, dancing, food, and even fashion from around the world. The campus community and their families are invited to join students from more than 84 countries Friday, May 16, from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Smith Union cafeteria, Multicultural Center, and Ballroom. Allison Anders to speak about her writer-director career

Director and screenwriter Allison Anders will talk about her career in film and television Friday, May 16, at 2 p.m. in the Lincoln Hall Studio Theater, room 15. Her film credits include Gas Food Lodging and Mi Vida Loca, and she has directed television episodes for eight television shows, including Sex and the City and Cold Case. Anders is this year's director in resident in the Theater Arts Department film degree program. Her talk is free to faculty and staff with ID, but space is limited.

Anders has written and directed six feature films and two television movies. She is currently executive producer for Unicorns, the story of a teenage girl who retreats into fantasy after a violent relationship.

'Partnership Dialogue' on Tuesday

The first Partnership Dialogue Series event will focus on "Trust," Tuesday, May 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. in 228 Smith Union. The session will capture the "Wisdom of Practice" and is facilitated by Amy Driscoll, consulting scholar from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Learning Outcomes Showcase on May 22

Diversity workshop for search committee members

The PSU Office of Academic Affairs now requires that one member of each Portland State search committee has participated in Diversity Action Hiring and Retention Team training. This training is being offered in an open campus workshop Tuesday, May 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. in 228 Smith Union. No reservations are required.

Workshop discussion will cover recruiting for faculty and staff diversity, retaining new colleagues, avoiding practices that inadvertently act against building faculty and staff diversity, and maintaining a welcoming departmental workplace. The goal of the workshop is to facilitate collegial discussion of diversity issues within Portland State's departments and programs.
