Calculating climate change

Even as city-sized icebergs calve into the sea, the future of the massive ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland remains a great unknown in climate science. How fast are they changing and what impact will this have on sea level? Geology professor Christina Hulbe is a leader in a global effort to calculate and incorporate answers to these questions into computer climate model projections. Wine and Roses features hottest ticket in town

The Billy Joel/Elton John concert Feb. 10 at the Rose Garden may well be the hottest ticket in town, and the PSU Viking Wine and Roses dinner/auction has 22 of its seats to auction off in support of athletic scholarships. Fourteen other concerts and more than 130 auction items will also be featured at the Feb. 4 event at the Nike's Tiger Woods Center. Read more >

 

PSU Bike Hub now open

Four workstations, expert staff, retail goods, and a reduced membership fee are some of the immediate benefits of the new PSU Bike Hub located in the Academic and Student Recreation Center. Through winter term, annual membership in the PSU Bike Co-Op is just $20 (reduced from $30) and entitles members to use tools and workspace and receive discounts on merchandise and services. Day passes for $5 also cover use of the workstations. The five-year-old co-op closed its doors in December in order to move into the bigger space.

 

Ed.D to focus on higher education leadership

Learn about the University's Doctor of Education degree program that will specialize in higher education leadership at an information session Monday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. in 604 Education Building. The Postsecondary, Adult, and Continuing Education (PACE) program is offering the three-year cohort program beginning in fall 2010. Admission applications are due March 1, 2010. Meet new football coach at signing party

Meet new head football coach Nigel Burton and his staff at a National Letter of Intent Signing Party Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Almalfi's Restaurant, 4703 NE Fremont. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with no-host food and drinks.

In December, PSU chose Burton, 33, from a field of highly qualified finalists to become the Viking's 13th head football coach. Burton is not new to the University. He was defensive backs coach under Tim Walsh during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He went on to become the secondary coach at Oregon State for five years and, for the past two seasons, defensive coordinator for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack. Read more about Burton >

 

Students write guidebook on bicycle boulevards

Urban studies and planning students, working with Alta Design + Planning, have produced the first comprehensive guidebook to Bicycle Boulevard Planning and Design. The report serves as guide for planners, engineers, citizens, advocates, and decision makers who are considering bicycle boulevards in their communities. Download it at >
