Working with PGE to advance electric cars and sustainability

The University and Portland General Electric have formally joined forces to help the region accommodate electric cars, develop renewable energy, design environmentally friendly buildings, and foster regional sustainability. Presidents of both organizations signed a memorandum of understanding at Portland State on March 30. Read more >

 

Walk with students at spring commencement

Faculty and staff who wish to participate in spring commencement on Sunday, June 13, are invited to find out more and register  at the commencement Web site. The last day to rent regalia from the PSU Bookstore or online at the regular price is April 21.

 

Building business leadership in social sustainability

Business faculty Carolyn McKnight and Cindy Cooper will discuss "Impact Entrepreneurs: Leadership for an evolving world-Accelerating the (r)Evolution of PSU" on Friday, April 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. in 660 Academic Student and Recreation Center. Impact Entrepreneurs is a network of individuals, working within PSU and externally, who are committed to building leadership capacity and generating innovations for economic and social impact. Local architecture firms hires Alice Wiewel

Alice Wiewel has recently joined Allied Works Architecture in Southwest Portland. Wiewel, wife of PSU President Wim Wiewel, was director of capital planning for the Oregon University System. As a new managing principal at Allied Works, Wiewel will oversee business operations and lead in higher education procurement. Read more >

 

April events bring awareness to sexual assault

The PSU Women's Resource Center is sponsoring lectures, workshops, an awareness campaign, and other events during April's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Red Flag campaign posters on campus present ideas for intervening in unsafe situations. Events begin April 7 with workshops on "Legal Options for Survivors for Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault" and "Get Your Consent On!" Spring football takes the field

Viking Football, led by new head coach Nigel Burton, began spring practice this week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1:35 to 3:45 p.m. on the Stott Community Field. The annual spring football game is scheduled for May 8, 2 p.m. at the Hillsboro Stadium, where next season's play will take place as PGE Park is remodeled. Read more >

 

Supporting Alzheimer research this tax season

Portland State is among the institutions supported by Oregon taxpayers who donate to the Oregon Partnership for Alzheimer's Research, code 21, on their 2009 tax returns. The fund, which is administered by the Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Center at Oregon Health & Science University, supports aging and Alzheimer's research across the state, including a PSU study to develop tools for understanding whether physical activity slows the onset of dementia. GIS Conference held on campus for first time

PSU's School of the Environment and College of Urban and Public affairs have teamed up with two professional geographical information systems (GIS) associations to bring the regional GIS Conference to PSU for the first time, April 14 and 15. GIS is the software and methodology used for analyzing spatial problems, including, but not limited to, environmental, engineering, and planning domains. Read more >
