The College of Urban & Public Affairs is committed to providing scholarship opportunities in order to attract the best students and help them achieve their educational goals. The following is a current listing of all CUPA-endowed scholarships and fellowships, along with a brief description of each.
CUPA General Scholarships
State Treasurer’s Urban Pioneer Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to minority undergraduate and graduate students who are successfully working toward a degree in the College of Urban & Public Affairs. Awards are based on financial need and academic merit.
* Varying awards of $1500 each
Urban & Public Affairs Memorial Award
Annual scholarship available to an outstanding student in the College of Urban & Public Affairs. This award rotates among the three academic schools that make up the college.
* One $500 undergraduate award
* One $500 graduate student award
American Public Works Association Michael Lindberg Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to Masters students in Public Administration or Urban Studies and Planning. Awarded by the Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association to recognize and financially assist students who are interested in pursuing a career in Public Works Administration.
* One $2,000 award Application form for Michael Lindberg Scholarship
Toulan School of Urban Studies and PlanningErnie Bonner Equity Planning Endowed Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to students pursuing a Master of Urban and Regional Planning or a Ph.D. in Urban Studies, and who have stated interest in equity planning and/or the use of planning to advance conditions of social equity in our society.
* Number and amount of award varies
Maurie Clark Fellowship
Annual fellowship awarded to an outstanding Ph.D. candidate in the College of Urban & Public Affairs. The recipient must have an approved dissertation outline and intend to use the fellowship to support research activities.
* One $6,000 award
Norris & Stevens Real Estate Student Fellowship
Students must exhibit an interest in the commercial real estate field, be in their junior or senior year or a graduate student, and be accepted into a degree program in the College of Urban & Public Affairs or the School of Business Administration. Students should submit a one-page resume and a 300-word essay describing their interest in commercial real estate and how it fits in their academic and work future. They should also describe any extenuating circumstances, such as financial need.

Phyllis Robideaux Wiener Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to undergraduate applicants with junior or senior standing in the fall quarter and at least three terms of full-time study remaining.
* One $1,000 award
Sumner Sharpe and Margaret Strachan Endowed Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to students who are at least 30 years old, are pursuing careers as professional planners, and who have made the commitment to pursue a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree.

Mark O. Hatfield School of Government
D. Paul Fansler Memorial Scholarship
Annual scholarship available to senior-level undergraduates and graduates students in political science and international studies with high promise of achievement in international affairs.
* One or two awards of $1,000 each
Hatfield Prize in Political Science
Each year, the Division of Political Sciences announces a topic and invites political science majors to submit essays to compete for the award. All undergraduate political science majors are eligible for this renewable award.
* One $500 award
Katrina Matilda Pongracz-Bartha Memorial
Annual scholarship available to an upper-division female student with satisfactory progress towards a degree in political science. Preference given to applicants with a job or family responsibilities and demonstrated financial need. Award honors Katrina’s dedication to women’s political issues and her efforts to financially support herself in pursuit of a degree.
* One $300 award
Ron Cease Founders Award
Professor Ron Cease, founder of the Division of Public Administration, and his wife Jane led active careers with the Oregon State Legislature and were involved with Portland State University. This scholarship honors students wishing to follow similar careers by providing financial assistance to graduate students pursuing careers in public service. Preference will be given to students in the Division of Public Administration.

School of Community Health
Jack S. Schendel Commemorative Scholarship
Scholarship available to an outstanding health education major in the School of Community Health with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
* Two awards of $500 each
Milan Svoboda Memorial Fund
This scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Community Health who is pursuing a career in public health. The award will be given to support a student in a service learning opportunity with a local agency to further his or her practical experience and knowledge.
