Gerald Sussman, Ph.D
Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and Speech Communication

B.A. 1967 (history and government) Fairleigh Dickinson University; M.A. 1975 (Asian studies/political science) University of the Philippines, Center for Advanced Studies; Ph.D. 1983 (political science) University of Hawai'i/East-West Center.

His teaching areas: information cities, Third World development, political economy of urbanization, international communication, critical theories in mass communication and political communication. His research focuses on the political economy of development, information cities and the political economy of information technologies. His teaching and research focus on a relatively new concern of urban studies, both in western and Third World settings: the restructuring of cities as a result of the new international division of labor and the presence of digital communication and information infrastructure.
