The Initiative on Triple Bottom Line Development

The triple bottom line term is a phrase that originated in the corporate sector as a way to think about the economic, social, and environmental value that is added or destroyed by an investment.  The triple bottom line (TBL) provides an accounting of the real bottom line – the full range of costs and benefits associated with an investment.  We are pleased to be working with public, private, and non-governmental leaders to advance thinking and practice regarding the triple bottom line of development investment.

The Initiative on Triple Bottom Line Development is led by Dr. Janet Hammer.  Janet has twenty years of experience working on sustainability issues and holds degrees in policy analysis and planning, city and regional planning, energy management and policy, education, and urban studies.  She can be reached at hammerj@pdx.edu.
