Michael Soto, with more than 28 years experience to the campus community at Portland State University, heads a force of more than a dozen officers at Public Safety with the emphasis on community service and safety rather than mere security and enforcement.

Soto is a full-blooded Native American of the Ohlone tribe out of the Monterey, California area. He came to Portland State after six years in the USMC Military Police, Criminal Investigation Division, and Counter-Intelligence Team. He graduated in the studies of Administration of Justice and Psychology, and is now working on his Masters in Public Administration through the Hatfield School of Government at PSU.

As for his role, he says, "We will continue to support the mission of the university with public service and support, being there as needed in a law enforcement and service roles."
