Pre-medical Post-Baccalaureate Program
For students who already have a bachelor's degree but are lacking the specific science prerequisites for medical school, PSU offers a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program that may be completed in one year (including Summer Session) of intensive study. Post-bac students, with sufficient background, start with general chemistry in the Summer Session and continue with organic chemistry, biology, and physics during the academic year, followed by the August administration of the MCAT.
Many of the strongest medical school candidates are post-bac students who come from a range of undergraduate majors. Students may choose a one-year preparation program, but it is strongly advised that they spread requirements over a two year period. Competitive applicants will frequently have completed more than the minimum requirements in the sciences. Additional course work in biology and chemistry is strongly recommended. A health science adviser can help determine from which additional courses students should select.
