Roberto de Anda is a Professor Emeritus of Chicano/Latino Studies at Portland State University. He received a BA in Chicano Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. After doing graduate work in Latin American studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), he earned a Ph.D. in sociology and bilingual education at the University of Arizona. He has published papers on labor market inequality among men and women of Mexican descent, and Ernesto Galarza’s contributions to the study of braceros and children’s literature in Spanish. He has also edited two editions of his book Chicanas & Chicanos in Contemporary Society. Professor de Anda is currently editing a book that seeks to document the transnational experiences of Chicanas/os who participated in the Becas para Aztlán Program (1972-1984), a scholarship program established through a bilateral agreement between the Raza Unida Party and the Mexican government for Chicanas/os to attend graduate school in Mexican universities.
