A recent publication by the Strongin Research group was highlighted by the ACS as "New and Noteworthy Chemistry".  The results obtained by the Strongin group showed that a single rhodamine-bis-(boronic acid) fluorophore could be used to detect 5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide 1-β-D-ribofuranoside in the presence of other carbohydrates.  This is important because "5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide 1-β-D-ribofuranoside is a model for succinylpurine metabolites associated with a rare autism spectrum disorder" (link).
