News

We invite you to come by June 30th for a tour of our open access fee-for-service Facility for the identification & quantification of small molecules; new users feel free to bring a sample for exact mass - high resolution analysis. Bring along samples in methanol or water at 10uM; if possible fill in a registration form ahead of time and email to chem-ms@pdx.edu. Pay parking is available at PSU parking structure 3

General

Training is provided on the use of a Bruker MicroTOF-Q and a ThermoElectron LTQ-Orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometer with a dedicated Accela HPLC system. In addition, one component of the facility is as a service laboratory to provide accurate mass analysis for formula determination. All instrument use will be charged on either an hourly or a per sample basis as outlined in the current rate sheet. User operated instrument time or sample analysis by facility personnel should be requested through submission of registration form. Please indicate date of usage and if you will be needing solvents in email header.

Description of Services

User Operated Instrument Training: For each instrument, training sessions are available that will enable the individual to run their own sample analysis. This training is required before an investigator is allowed to analyze their own samples. Training includes general operation of the instrument, the creation of instrument methods, the capability to run samples and an introduction to data analysis. To schedule training please email (chem-ms@pdx.edu) or call 503.725.8733 on Mondays between 10am-4pm. During those times Dr. DeBarber can also be found in Room 469, Science Building 2.

User Operated Instrument Fee: Those investigators that have successfully completed training on an instrument can request instrument time (as well as check web calendar for instrument availability) by emailing a registration form to chem-ms@pdx.edu. The investigator must supply their own column and pre-approved solvents and sample vials. If required, approved solvents and buffers available in the Facility can be used for a charge of $2.5 per 50mL (Acetonitrile will be $2.5 per 50ml used), autosampler vials/caps are also available for a charge of $1, as well as inserters (if required) for a charge of $1. Overall charges reflect instrument time plus consumables.

Submitted sample analysis (mass accuracy within 4 ppm): Accurate mass analysis is provided by Facility staff for molecular formula determination. Samples received between 10am and noon every Monday (Science Building 2, Room 469) will be analyzed on the same day. Please inquire regarding other sample drop-off times.
