World’s Largest Engineering and Technology Management Conference Returns July 20-24, 2003

WHAT: PICMET '03, "Technology Management for Reshaping the World," returns to Portland next week. PICMET is the largest conference on engineering and technology management in the world and is sponsored by Portland State University's Department of Engineering and Technology Management.

Over 550 heads of industry, researchers and technology managers are expected to attend the Panels, tutorials, paper sessions, plenaries and workshops focused on topics such as innovation, entrepreneurship, emerging technologies, technology transfer, technology road-mapping, new product development, knowledge mining and measuring the business value of a technology.

WHEN: July 20-24, 2003. The conference will be opened with a statement from Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon on Monday, and by PSU President Daniel Bernstine on Tuesday, Portland Mayor Vera Katz on Wednesday, and PSU Provost Mary Kay Tetreault on Thursday.

BACKGROUND: This year's conference keynote speakers include Rosalie Zobel, European Commission; Youngrak Choi, president of STEPI, Korea;. Thomas Lipscomb, chairman, The Digital Future, USA; John McDougal, CEO, Alberta Research Council, Canada; and George Chacko, professor, The Multimedia University, Malaysia. Plenary sessions will be chaired by Gunnar Hambreaus, former chairman of the Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences; Joseph Cox, Oregon University System distinguished service professor; Robert Dryden, dean, PSU's College of Engineering and Technology Management; and John Harker, CEO, InFocus Corp.
