Skin Mechanics Senior Capstone Presented at Northwest Biomechanics Symposium

Jill Pinkstaff, a senior undergraduate in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Portland State University, presented the results from her team’s capstone project, “Design of a Mechanical Device to Influence Skin Wound Healing and Scar Formation,” at the Northwest Biomechanics Symposium at the University of Washington in Seattle on May 14, 2005.

The symposium was sponsored by the American Society of Biomechanics and showcased undergraduate and graduate student design/research projects from 14 northwest universities. Her Senior Capstone team members included mechanical engineering senior Eric Hettinger and recent mechanical engineering graduate Michelle Siemers-Kleine. The project was sponsored by Oregon Health & Science University’s Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Associate Professor Shelley R. Winn. The work was presented in the Methodologies Session of the Symposium, chaired by the team’s advisor, PSU Adjunct Associate Professor Sean S. Kohles.
