Saturday Academy Elects New Members to Board
Saturday Academy's Board of Advisors elected three new members and renewed three members' terms at their annual meeting on May 22, 2003.
The board elected Mary Erichsen of IBM Life Sciences, Paul Loving of Davis Wright Tremaine and Ronald Saxton of Ater Wynne LLP to three-year terms beginning July 1, 2003. The board elected Diane Jenkins of Babcock & Jenkins, Mark Long of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, and Pat Montgomery of StanCorp Investment Advisors to a second three-year term. The Board of Advisors also elected the following officers: Sharon Barnes to chair, Dick Knight to vice-chair and John Frewing to secretary/treasurer.
Saturday Academy is a self-funded, pre-college program of Portland State University that is jointly allied with Oregon Health & Science University. Saturday Academy's five programs serve over 6,000 students in grades 1-12 from throughout the Portland metropolitan area. For more information visit www.saturdayacademy.org.
New Saturday Academy Advisory Board Members Mary Erichsen, a business executive with IBM Life Sciences, is charged with building a comprehensive strategy to grow and service new customers in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Prior to her current position, Erichsen was Apple Computer's Pacific Northwest district sales manger for 11 years, handling higher education and K-12. She is a board member of the Oregon BioAssociation and holds a B.S. in Sociology from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She is a native of Spokane, Wash. and lives with her husband in the Portland area.
Paul Loving is an attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine in Portland with a focus on intellectual property, trademark and technology licensing, sports law and Internet and e-commerce. Prior to joining Davis Wright, Loving served as assistant general counsel to Nike and vice president of a global sports marketing firm. Paul serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Aid Society and is an adjunct professor of Sports Marketing at PSU's School of Business Administration. He is the founding chair of the AeA Oregon Council's Intellectual Property and Technology Committee.
Ronald Saxton is a partner at Ater Wynne LLP, with a focus on business law and utility law. He earned a B.S. from Willamette University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. He served as chair of the Portland Public Schools Board of Education from 1997-2000, is the founding president of the Portland Public Schools Foundation, a Portland Business Alliance board member, an Associated Oregon Industries board member and was a candidate for governor in 2002. His son Andy was a Saturday Academy student.
