HTU.jpgOn Thursday, October 12, PSU’s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science will welcome high school students attending High Tech U, a three-day program presented by global industry association SEMI in partnership with co-sponsors IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.), Worksystems, Inc., PGE, and the Portland Development Commission.

High Tech U aims to ensure high school students will be part of tomorrow’s high tech workforce by energizing and exciting them about math and science, and high tech careers. Student selection was conducted by Worksystems, Inc. in conjunction with high school guidance counselors and teachers.

Students will spend two days of the three-day program at IDT(October 11 and 13) in Hillsboro, Oregon and one day at Portland State University (October 12). A tour of the new engineering building in the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology is one activity scheduled for the PSU day.

High Tech U was created by the Pacific Northwest chapter of SEMI. The curriculum includes hands-on experiments that introduce semiconductor manufacturing concepts and explain microchip logic, as well as sessions on educational pathways and career planning. Since the program began in 2001, 46 High Tech U programs have been delivered to over 1,200 students and more than 300 teachers in the U.S. and Singapore.
