What:
The 22nd annual Intel Northwest Science Expo, presented by Portland State University and Vernier Software and Technology, brings 700 students, grades 5–12, to PSU for a day of competition and exhibits.
Students present science and engineering research projects in the areas of the natural sciences, the social sciences, mathematics and computer science. Winners can receive scholarships and prizes; top projects in the high school division attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, held in May in Phoenix, Ariz.; top middle school projects are nominated to enter the Discovery Young Scientist Challenge, held later this year in Washington, D.C.
When:
Friday, April 1, 2005. Public viewing will be held from 1:45–2:45 p.m. and from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at the Stott Center. News media may be admitted to the exhibit hall from 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m., provided that they do not interfere with judging. The awards ceremony runs from 6–8 p.m. and will be held in PSU’s Hoffmann Hall (1833 SW 11th Ave.).

The event is free and open to the public during designated viewing hours.

Background:
The Intel Northwest Science Expo is the regional fair for Oregon and southwest Washington students, and is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge. Its mission is to develop scientific talent and promote science literacy in Oregon and SW Washington students. The Expo is a project of the Center for Science Education at Portland State University.
