What:
Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski will lead an inspection tour of the Center for Electron Microscopy and Nanofabrication and the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnology Institute (ONAMI) at Portland State University. The tour will include briefings and demonstrations of projects underway at the facility, and will conclude with a public gathering at which Gov. Kulongoski and other speakers will describe the exciting opportunities that nanotechnology presents for Oregonians. This event is especially relevant in view of the recently announced federal budget, which includes $8 million to support ONAMI and Oregon’s program in nanotechnology.

When:
Monday, February 13, 2006. Media interested in attending the walk-through should arrive at the Simon Benson House by 9:30 a.m.; the tour will include facilities located in Science Buildings 1 and 2. The public session, followed by a question and answer, begins at 11 a.m.

Where:
Walk-through with the Governor begins at Simon Benson House (1803 SW Park Ave.) The public gathering takes place in Science Building 2 (1719 SW 10th Ave., Portland).

Media attending the walk-through should meet at the Simon Benson House by 9:30 a.m. Media parking is available behind Montgomery Hall on 10th Ave—travel up 9th Ave. on the Park Blocks, turn right on SW Montgomery, travel one block, then turn left and park anywhere in the loading area or along the curb (www.pdx.edu/map.html).
