CIVIL ENGINEERING ASSISTANT
Recruitment #: 02-110/134 Department: Public Works/Engineer Salary Range: $19.11-$23.41/Hr. + Excellent Fringe Benefit Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 Pm
Position Description: This is entry level civil engineering work in support of a large municipal public works department. The work involves providing design and drafting services for a professional project management team in the Public Works Department. Key responsibilities for this position involve design and drafting of routine water, storm drain and street projects utilizing Auto CADD and Civil Engineering Design Applications including Land Development Desktop 2; writing technical specifications; preparing final bid documents; preparing cost estimates; field work as required for design and construction support; performance of complex civil engineering calculations; and other related work as required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who possesses a four-year degree in Civil Engineering and certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) or ability to receive EIT within 2 years of appointment. The position is an entry level position in the field of professional engineering. The work will require knowledge of the principles of civil engineering related to the design and construction of water, sewer, storm and street projects; solid knowledge of mathematics and considerable knowledge using computer aided design and drafting software (AutoCADD), Land Development Desk Top 2, and applicable design and drafting standards. Candidates must possess the ability to produce standard designs and design options in engineering and surveying; develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, peers and others; work effectively as a team member to complete team projects; work independently; and possess a vaild Oregon Class C driver's license.
