Bethlehem University

Founded in 1973 with 112 students, Bethlehem University has produced over 12,200 graduates with undergraduate, graduate, and higher diploma degrees over the last 37 years. Bethlehem University considers its mission to be threefold: teaching, research, and service to the community, while always regarding teaching to be its primary responsibility. To stress and maintain this tradition, the University recently engaged in a self-initiated comprehensive review which bolstered the need for further developments and resources in teaching. Bethlehem University anticipates that establishing a Center of Teaching Excellence will further consolidate and formalize all previous initiatives taken by the University as well as those promoted by PFDP to make them permanent features in enhancing the quality of higher education in Palestine.

An-Najah National University

An-Najah National University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the Northern part of West Bank.  The University offers training and education services to almost 19,000 students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.  It offers 77 BA/BSc, 38 MA/MSc, and 18 higher diploma programs that cover the wide range of social, medical, business, banking, engineering, and education services that Palestinian society needs to achieve sustainable development in the various sectors of the economy.  The faculty and support staff working in these programs include: 471 Ph.d., 323 masters' degree holders, and 160 TAs and lab assistants.  With such a large scope of influence, An-Najah University's involvement in the PFDP is expected to engender lasting impact in the greater West Bank region.

Northwestern University's Searle Center for Teaching Excellence

The mission of the Searle Center for Teaching Excellence at Northwestern University is to advance learning in higher education by promoting teaching practice that is grounded in pedagogical scholarship and contributing to the academic literature on teaching and learning.  It offers a variety of programs grounded in the scholarship of teaching and learning to help Northwestern faculty, graduate and undergraduate students address a range of issues.  The Searle Center also evaluates and conducts research on Center programs, NSF- and NIH-funded projects and joint programs between Northwestern faculty and Center staff.
