Eco-District Curriculum and Research Development $1,000 mini-grant

Spring 2012 - Proposal DUE DATE:  March 23, 2012 

All PSU faculty are encouraged to apply. Each member of the cohort will receive a $1,000 mini-grant following completion of requirements as specified within the “Participant Agreement” section on the application form.

Building on recent collaborations for Eco-District research, as well as investments in EcoDistrict initiatives by the Institute of Sustainable Solutions, this program will convene a multi-disciplinary team to develop community-engaged projects within the South of Market EcoDistrict, centered around the PSU campus. 

Each participant will be expected to:

 Work collaboratively to design new, or redesign existing courses and build partnerships that further student learning and faculty research around sustainability and management activities. 

Time commitment:

Members of this faculty learning community are expected to attend all five group sessions. Participants who attend fewer than four of the five group sessions must forfeit their mini-grant award. The group will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the following five Fridays during spring term, 2012: April 13, April 20, April 27, May 4, and May 18.

Enhancing Large Course Design $1,000 mini-grant

Winter-Spring 2012 - Proposal DUE DATE:  January 9, 2012

All PSU faculty are encouraged to apply. Each member of the cohort will receive a $1,000 mini-grant following completion of requirements as specified within the “Participant Agreement” section on the application form.

Each participant will be expected to:

• Develop a project that addresses a core question, issue, or theme related to one or more of their large courses.
• Complete a 500-750 word reflection on what was learned through completing the project. This will be shared on CAE’s website, on the large course resource page.

 Time commitment:

·        Members of this AIM group will attend at least four of five AIM group meetings during winter and spring terms 2011.  Meetings will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on the following Fridays: January 27, February 24, March 16, April 20, and May 18, 2011.

Faculty Fellows for Partnership

The Faculty Fellows for Partnership Program is designed specifically for faculty who are interested in exploring
a new community partnership that will be coupled with academic curriculum or community-engaged research. We particularly encourage faculty participation from those who have little or no experience with community partnership development. In addition to providing this Faculty Fellows team with partnership development resources. CAE staff will share local, regional, and national expertise and will facilitate an agenda to help participants understand how to develop a partnership that results in powerful community-engaged teaching, learning, and/or research. Through conversation with colleagues during and between meetings, we will develop a broader understanding of how partnerships with community organizations can ground research and teaching in local, regional, and national concerns. All PSU faculty are encouraged to apply.

  As a participant, you will be expected to: 

• Submit a syllabus or a research proposal that clearly identifies your community-based partner and anticipated outputs
  developed in clear collaboration with the partner;
• Complete a project [such as a teaching project, a curriculum redesign project, or a community-based research
  project.] designed to foster student learning and/or community impact through partnerships, within the context of your discipline. The project
  must clearly delineate how the outcomes will be assessed.

 Time commitment:   While all members of the faculty learning community are expected to attend all five group sessions, participants of this Faculty Fellows Program who attend fewer than four of the five group sessions must forfeit their mini-grant award.Fall/Winter 2011-12 sessions will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on: November 15, December 6, January 3 and 31, and February 7.

Academic Portfolio Development

Faculty in the Academic Portfolio Development AIM cohort will investigate the purposes served by academic portfolios and the advantages they offer faculty. Through review and discussion of related literature, conversations with colleagues during and between meetings, and development of a preliminary portfolio (i.e., outline and one section), members of this AIM group will explore the academic portfolio and its practical expression at Portland State. Faculty anticipating review of their academic work will benefit from participating in this learning community.  

All PSU faculty are encouraged to apply, including collaborative pairings of senior and junior faculty members.  Each member of the cohort will receive a $500 mini-grant following completion of requirements as specified within the “Participant Agreement” section on the application form.   

Participants will be expected to:

·          Develop or update an annotated portfolio outline.

·          Complete or update one section of their outline.

·          Complete a 500-750 word reflection on what was learned through completing the project. This will be shared on CAE’s website, on the portfolio development resource page.

Time commitment:

·          Members of this AIM group will attend at least four of five AIM group meetings during fall term 2011 and winter term 2012.  Meetings will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on the following Fridays: 10/14/11, 11/18/11, 1/20/12, 2/17/12, and 3/16/12.
