PSU Center for Japanese Studies presents the second lecture in its series Kanpai Japan!
What Makes Saké So Cool?

Marcus Pakiser, Vice President Supplier, Saké for Republic National Distributing Company

Mr. Pakiser will discuss saké’s place in Japanese culture and share stories from its more than 1500 year-long history. He’ll also touch on some misunderstandings about saké culture, and explain why it is called “Nihonshu,” or "Japan’s beverage."

As the Vice President Supplier for Saké for Republic National Distributing Company, Marcus Pakiser has educated sales teams and customers on all aspects of saké and its culture. He was previously the National Sales Manager for two different saké companies, and for the past 18 years has been working in saké distribution and education. He has appeared on television in both the U.S. and Japan and has been featured in multiple publications including Wine Spectator and USA Today. He was awarded the title of Saké Samurai by Japan’s Brewer and Shochu Association, and in 2023 earned the position of Master Saké Sommelier.
