Our Mission

Increase the connections between PSU and the rest of the world by helping and continuing the internationalization of the PSU campus and strengthening the ties between PSU and its international alumni.

About us

The Cultural Ambassador Program started in 2010 as collaboration between the Office of Alumni Relations, the Office of International Affairs, and the Office of International Admissions. In 2011, the Office of Graduate Studies and the Intensive English Language Program joined. Our program recognizes outstanding international students who are willing to share their positive experience at PSU with potential international students after their graduation. Selected Cultural Ambassadors choose to return home after their graduation or remain in the United States to gain their valuable work experience.

Our goals for both groups of students are:

Cultural ambassadors who return home
  • Give a presentation about PSU in their college/high-school/work
  • Keep in contact with the Cultural Ambassador Program coordinators as well as Cultural Ambassador Program stakeholders' committee
  • Be available to help answer the questions of potential students from the same country
  • Help the creation and maintenance of a PSU Cultural Ambassador’s local chapter in their home country
  • Be the key contact for faculty, staff, and the PSU president who might travel in that region and help to organize events and participate in them.

Cultural ambassadors who stay in the U.S.
  • Help the International Admissions office to answer the questions of prospective students
  • Be a key contact if PSU faculty, staff, or the president travel to their home country and help to organize events
  • Help the creation and maintenance of a PSU Cultural Ambassador’s local chapter in their home country
  • Be a positive, reliable, and helpful resource for PSU faculty, staff, President Wiewel, and prospective and new international students
  • Participate in various PSU events that promote the Cultural Ambassador Program (Annual Simon Benson Awards Dinner, PSU Weekend, New International Students’ Orientation, International Night, etc.).
