Repeating courses

Grades earned in all courses remain on the academic record/transcript. However, a grade of D+, D, D-, or F earned at PSU may be disregarded once in your PSU GPA if the course is repeated at PSU. The grade from the repeated course is used in the cumulative GPA rather than the original grade. The repeated courses effect the calculation of the official GPA as follows: (1) credit is retained on the first A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, and all grades in subsequent attempts count in GPA, and (2) the first PSU grade of D+, D, D- or F is excluded from GPA calculation if repeated at PSU for a differentiated grade (not P/NP). In this latter case, credit is retained on the last grade received.

In order to have the official GPA calculation reflected on the transcript, you must notify the Office of Admissions and Records of any course being repeated to ensure that an initial D or F grade is forgiven in the calculation of the GPA. Complete the Notification of Repeat of Course form and submit at the Admissions, Records, and Financial Aid window, Neuberger Hall lobby.

Please note: "D" grades are considered passing grades. However, many major departments require grades of "C" or better for classes in your major. You should check with your major department regarding its GPA policy.
