Grade point average (GPA)
Your performance in each course is expressed by one of the grades shown in the PSU Grading System chart. A, B, C, D, or P are grades required for graduation. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required to graduate from PSU. Check with the department for GPA requirements in your major. The PSU grading system and the points awarded to a particular grade are found below.

If you transferred to PSU you may have more than one GPA. Courses that are transferred to PSU from another college or university are calculated into your transfer GPA. Your PSU GPA is based only on classes you take at PSU. Finally, there is a cumulative GPA, which is a combination of the two mentioned above. For the purpose of academic standing, PSU is concerned with only your PSU GPA. However, for graduation with honors and for admission into certain majors, the cumulative GPA of all your coursework is used.
Your GPA is important for several reasons. If you plan on applying to graduate school, a minimum 3.00 undergraduate GPA is often expected (and it may need to be even higher than that to be competitive). Scholarships are often awarded based on GPA. Some majors have a GPA requirement, like the School of Business and the College of Engineering and Computer Science, in order to be admitted. Furthermore, to remain in good academic standing with the University, you must maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA at PSU.
