Freshman
All new students, both freshmen and transfers, are required to attend an Orientation: Advising & Registration session in order to register for their first term classes at Portland State. At these sessions, offered every term, students will learn about Portland State's academic curriculum and meet with academic advisers.
Beginning in fall 2010, all admitted freshmen (including students transferring fewer than 30 credits) are required to receive academic advising from their intended major during their first year at Portland State before they may register for their second year's classes. Freshmen who have not selected a major are advised by the Undergraduate Advising & Support Center (UASC). Those in pre-professional programs (e.g. education, nursing, medicine) may receive advising either from their major department or the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) Advising Center.
