Credit Requirements and Limitations

Credit Requirements

In order to earn a bachelor's degree at PSU, you must meet the following credit requirements:

CREDIT TYPE MINIMUM REQUIRED
Total earned credits 180 credits
Upper division (300/400 level) credits 62 credits
Credits taken at PSU (excludes credit by examination) 45 of the final 75 credits, or 150 credits total
Credits with differentiated grades (A-F) 25 of the last 45 credits (up to 20 Pass credits allowed)1

You must also have a minimum of 2.0 cumulative grade point average (G.P.A) in all PSU coursework and at least a 2.0 in all courses in your major. Some majors require higher than a 2.0 in the major courses, and some require that you maintain a minimum G.P.A. in order to avoid a probationary status in the department.

Credit Limitations

Credits transferred to PSU will apply to the degree, but some credit limits apply:

Credits transferred from regionally accredited two-year colleges 124 credits
Correspondence credits 60 credits
Graded Pass / No Pass credits 45 credits1
English as a Second Language credits 24 credits
Cooperative education credits 12 credits
Vocational education credits 12 credits
PE (physical education) credits 12 credits

These limitations will appear on your Degree Audit (DARS) report. Any questions about these, and any other graduation requirements should be directed to your academic advisor.

1 Pass credits taken in between Spring 2020-Spring 2021 do not count against these limits due to a temporarily relaxed policy during the COVID-19 disruption.
