Workshop on Socially Responsible Investing, May 19

What:
The Sustainable Investment Institute and Portland State University's School of  Business Administration are sponsoring a workshop on "Raising the Bar on Socially  Responsible Mutual Funds," by Paul Hawken. The workshop is designed for individual investors; investment professionals; and trustees, staff and investment managers for institutional investors seeking to understand the cutting edge of socially responsible investing (SRI). Participants will learn how SRI mutual funds use and misuse the term, what to look for in finding the best SRI funds, new directions for the SRI industry as investors become more sophisticated in their desire to invest for changes in corporate behavior, and how to interpret and navigate the SRI continuum of mutual funds.

Background:
Paul Hawken is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, journalist and best-selling author. He is the author and co-author of six books including The Ecology of Commerce (1993) and Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution (1999), which has been read and referred to by several heads of state including President Bill Clinton who calls it one of the five most important books in the world today. Hawken is the founder and director of Natural Capital Institute, a research group dedicated to researching principles and practices leading to social justice and environmental restoration.

The Sustainable Investment Institute is an outgrowth of a two-year project by Portland investment professionals to explore and research the developing field of "sustainable investing."
