Portland State University’s Department of Continuing Education is sponsoring a training session on “Treating Methamphetamine Dependence: Healing Injured Brains, Repairing Broken Lives,” which will explore the latest research and treatment strategies for recovering from damage caused by methamphetamine, an addictive stimulant drug.

The two-day training session will present the latest information on the extent of the meth epidemic, the most current research on meth and the brain and the brain's recovery, and the clinical and psychiatric disorders associated with methamphetamine. The training sessions will be conducted by Rick Rawson, associate director of the UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, who has spent his career conducting research and developing treatment systems for substance abuse disorders, and Sam Minsky, a therapist and clinical trainer with the Methamphetamine Treatment Project, a collaboration of the UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs and the Matrix Institute on Addictions.

The training will be held December 9–10, 2004 at PSU’s University Place, Multnomah Falls Room (310 S.W. Lincoln). The cost for the training is $198 and group discounts are available. For more information contact Marion Sharp at sharpml@pdx.edu or 503-725-4876.
