Portland State's School of Business Administration (SBA) has selected Professors Melissa Appleyard and Pam Tierney as the first recipients of the Ames Professorship in the Management of Information and Technology. The purpose of the renewable, three-year appointments is to pursue research on strategic issues relevant to the management of innovation and technology. PSU alumni Gary and Barbara Ames endowed the professorships through a generous donation in fall 2000.
Appleyard joins the SBA's faculty from the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, where she conducted research in technology and innovation management, business policy, and business strategy. Tierney joined the SBA faculty in 1991 and teaches courses in organizational management and leadership. Tierney's research focuses on micro and macro factors that influence the initiation stage of the innovation process in corporate settings.
