Scholarship Opportunities

Portland State University offers Washington students an opportunity to compete for merit-based scholarships available for the 2003-2004 academic year. A total of 70 freshman scholarships and 230 transfer or continuing scholarships will be available to qualified Washington residents during the 2003-2004 academic year. New and continuing students are eligible to apply. You must be admitted to Portland State University at the time of the scholarship application.

Eligibility Requirements for Freshmen:

  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average based exclusively upon credit hours from accredited high schools plus transferable college credits, if any.
  • Meet subject requirements.
  • Submit SAT or ACT I test scores at the time of admission to PSU.
  • Must have less than 30 transferable college credits
  • Reside in the state of Washington with proof of residence for at least 90 days prior to the date of application may be asked. Note that an alien possessing a non-immigrant or temporary visa (e.g. B, C, D, F, J or M) cannot be classified as a Washington resident.
  • Be an admitted Portland State University student at the time of scholarship application.
  • Make satisfactory progress with completion of at least 12 PSU undergraduate credit hours each academic term during which the award is granted.

Eligibility Requirements for Transfers:

  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average based exclusively upon transferable credit hours from accredited colleges or universities. All acceptable credit hours at the time of scholarship award will be included.
  • Minimum 30 transferable credit hours. To be eligible, transfer students must present a minimum of 30 transferable quarter credit hours or, 20 transferable semester credit hours. These may include PSU credit hours.
  • Reside in the state of Washington with proof of residence for at least 90 days prior to the date of application may be asked. Note that an alien possessing a non-immigrant or temporary visa (e.g. B, C, D, F, J or M) cannot be classified as a Washington resident.
  • Be an admitted Portland State University student at the time of scholarship application.
  • Make satisfactory progress with completion of at least twelve PSU undergraduate credit hours each academic term during which the award is granted.

Scholarship Amounts:

This scholarship is awarded in the form of a PSU fee remission and does not represent a cash award. Therefore, it may not be combined with the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program (WUE) or other fee remission awards.

  • $7,500 per academic year with minimum entry gpa of 3.75
  • $6,500 per academic year with minimum entry gpa of 3.5-3.749
  • $5,000 per academic year with minimum entry gpa of 3.25-3.499
  • $4,000 per academic year with minimum entry gpa of 3.0-3.249

Tuition remission scholarships will be dispersed in equal amounts each of Fall 2003, Winter 2004 and Spring 2004 academic terms for which the recipient meets the qualifications listed above.
