This month, Portland Trail Blazer President Steve Patterson announced a gift of $40,000 toward the Eyerly Scholarship fund in PSU’s School of Fine and Performing Arts. The fund was established in honor of Oregon Army National Guardsman Justin Eyerly, a PSU sophomore studying graphic design who had also interned for the Trail Blazers. Eyerly was killed in the line of duty while serving in Iraq on June 4, 2004.
This is one of two scholarship funds named for a PSU student and Oregon Army National Guardsman. Last fall, Barry Schlesinger and his brothers, Paul and Mark, established the David Weisenburg Memorial Scholarship in memory of David Weisenburg, who died on September 14, 2004, near Baghdad. To date, more than $42,000 has been raised for this scholarship.
In total, PSU has raised more than $12 million dollars for student scholarships through the Building Our Future campaign. With more than 70 percent of PSU students receiving some type of financial aid, the University hopes to raise additional funds for scholarship support.
