Public- and private-sector leaders tackle regional economy
Posted: December 1, 2003

Class is now in session for 22 public- and private-sector leaders enrolled in the Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies' Regional Leaders Seminar Series on the Regional Economy. The nine monthly seminars, which began in October, will lead to a clearer understanding of the region's competitive advantages and steps toward framing a regional economic strategy.

The seminars feature discussions with leading regional economists like Joe Cortright (Portland) and Eric Hovee (Vancouver) on what a healthy regional economy looks like, how the six-county metro area sizes up economically, politically and culturally with other parts of the country, and analysis of key industry clusters.

"The seminar is truly a unique opportunity for regional leaders to hear expert presenters and exchange ideas with their peers in a neutral setting," said Ethan Seltzer, series' facilitator and director of PSU's School of Urban Studies and Planning. Visit www.upa.pdx.edu/IMS for more information.
