TauBetaPi06.jpgPortland State University's Tau Beta Pi Chapter (Oregon Beta), and the University of Portland's Tau Beta Pi Chapter (Oregon Gamma) hosted the District 14 Spring Conference on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, 2006 in the new engineering building of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Tau Beta Pi is a national honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second oldest honor society, founded at LeHigh University in 1885 to recognize students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character.

The theme of this year's conference was learning how to train future officers to run chapter operations. The conference provided continuity of officer transition—current officers as well as future officers were present to discuss issues among themselves as well as with District 14 advisors. The hosting presidents were Scott Felton of Oregon Beta (Portland State University) and Andrew Melton of Oregon Gamma (University of Portland). Other schools represented were Gonzaga University, Seattle University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, University of Idaho, and University of Washington.

Following the business portion of the conference, attendees participated in a field trip that included a visit to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), a trip to the famous Rock Bottom Brewery and Restaurant, tours of the Northwest 23rd Avenue area and the Pearl District, and a hike up the southwest hills for a view of the city. Participants of this long socializing journey remember it as "the infamous hike around Portland, Oregon."
