Portland State University’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) will honor its 2004 Community Partners at an awards reception, Tuesday, April 27, 2004, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. in Smith Memorial Student Union, room 327-328 (1825 SW Broadway).

The Community Partner Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have shown, over time, extraordinary support for programs and students in the GSE. Contributions from community partners include being mentor teachers, counselors, librarians, administrators and staff in agencies or districts, being regular guest speakers in classes and serving as adjunct instructors.

The reception includes an address from Phyllis Edmundson, dean of the Graduate School of Education, distribution of awards and acceptance speeches by the recipients.

The recipients were nominated by faculty and staff from each program in the GSE: Curriculum and Instruction; Education Policy; Foundations and Administrative Studies; Special and Counselor Education; Continuing Education and the Office of the Dean.

PSU’s Graduate School of Education began the Community Partner Awards in the mid-1990s as a public acknowledgement of those whose work has made a major difference in its ability to prepare teachers, counselors, administrators, trainers and other PSU graduate professionals. Without this mutual teamwork GSE would not be the strong leader in the Portland metro area it is today.

The GSE is Oregon’s largest and most comprehensive school of education. Its faculty collaborates with PSU students, as well as the community’s teachers and administrators, to create effective educational environments that are sensitive to the diverse needs of an urban setting.
