The Pacific Northwest Children's Book Conference for writers and illustrators, sponsored by PSU's Haystack Summer Program in the Arts will be held on the campus of Lewis & Clark College, July 19-23, 2004.

Now in its fifth year, the Children's Book Conference presents an exciting week of lectures and small-group, faculty-led workshops. Special guest Arthur Levine, publisher of Arthur A. Levine Books and editor of numerous award-winning books for children including the American editions of the Harry Potter series, will deliver a keynote address on the children's book industry on Monday, July 20. This year's distinguished faculty includes Susan Fletcher, Marla Frazee, Ellen Howard, Anna Whitford Paul, Joanne Rocklin, Susan Goldman Rubin, Elsa Warnick and Linda Zuckerman, director.

Participants will explore storytelling techniques, welcome new characters into the fiction world, acquire specific information about how to become a professional in the field of children's literature and focus on the craft of writing for children and young people. Individual manuscript and portfolio reviews may be scheduled with the instructors for an additional fee and three University credits are available through Portland State University.

Housing and meals will be available to allow more opportunities for networking and ongoing discussion with faculty and fellow students. Tuition ranges from $585-$1015 for the week depending upon residency and credit options.
