Thirty-seven middle and high school science teachers go back to school this fall after spending five weeks in the woods. Participants in this year's "Teachers in the Woods" program came from Oregon, Washington, and even British Columbia to work with 25 scientists, led by Portland State University ecologists, conducting research on field and stream ecology for four weeks following a week of "boot camp" training.

Teachers were deployed in small teams with scientists throughout wilderness locations in Oregon and Washington, conducting authentic ecological research through real-world data collection activities and developing curriculum that can be taken back to their students this school year. Teachers in the Woods is funded by the National Science Foundation and run by ecologist Marion Dresner through PSU's Center for Science Education.
