Portland State University is honoring Sylvia Moseley with the Outstanding Friend of Athletics Award tomorrow, May 4, 2004, at the 15th annual PSU Salutes ceremony. PSU Salutes takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at PSU's Smith Union Ballroom, Smith Memorial Student Union, room 355 (1825 SW Broadway).

PSU Salutes is the University's annual event recognizing and honoring outstanding PSU alumni, faculty and friends for their dedication and continued support of both the University and the Portland community.

The Outstanding Friend of Athletics award will be given to Sylvia Moseley for her extraordinary service to Portland State University and her commitment to academic and athletic excellence. Moseley worked for 30 years at Portland State University, becoming the program executive of the School of Health and Physical Education in 1980. She was responsible for working with the coaches to schedule athletic practices, games, meetings, workshops, camps and clinics. Since then she has worked tirelessly in fund-raising events for Portland State University, including the "Riverboat Gambling & All That Jazz" fund-raiser and "Night of Wine and Roses." In 1992, she was awarded with Honorary Professor Emeritus status at PSU and became the first staff member to ever receive this high honor.

"Sylvia Moseley has been a tireless contributor to our athletic program for many years. Her involvement in our Viking Backer activities, as well as volunteerism within the department is invaluable," said Tom Burman, director of Athletics. "She is a true Viking who is a fixture at our sporting events and a friend to our staff and our student-athletes."

Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region-partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
