Portland State University is honoring Richard Fink with the Outstanding Friend of Athletics Award tomorrow, May 12, 2005, at the 16th annual PSU Salutes ceremony. PSU Salutes takes place from 5:30–7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Falls Ballroom at PSU’s University Place (310 SW Lincoln).
PSU Salutes is the University’s annual event recognizing and honoring outstanding PSU alumni, faculty and friends for their dedication and continued support of both the University and the Portland community.
The Outstanding Friend of Athletics Award will be given to Richard Fink for his extraordinary service to Portland State University and his commitment to athletic excellence. Richard Fink is a former Viking football player and has demonstrated a unique ability to support all student-athletes at PSU. He is a strong and active member of the Viking Backer Advisory Council and has continually volunteered to support special events and development efforts. Fink is also a supporter of the PSU campus recreation field and the Stott Center, and has been an athletics program donor for nearly 30 years.
“Richard Fink cares deeply about the student-athletes and the coaches that make up this program,” said Tom Burman, Athletics director at PSU. “Portland State Athletics is just completing its most successful Division I season in history and could not have accomplished this level of success without the support of Richard Fink.”
Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region—partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
