Portland State University is honoring Gary Robinson (B.A., ‘61) with the Outstanding Alumnus Award tomorrow, May 12, 2005, at the 16th annual PSU Salutes ceremony. PSU Salutes takes place from 5:30–7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Falls Ballroom at PSU’s University Place (310 SW Lincoln).

PSU Salutes is the University’s annual event recognizing and honoring outstanding PSU alumni, faculty and friends for their dedication and continued support of both the University and the Portland community.

The Outstanding Alumnus Award will be given to Gary Robinson in recognition of his extraordinary service to Portland State University and the community. Gary Robinson is one of the founding members of the PSU Friends of the Library organization and has played a crucial role in its development and success. His energetic contributions to the Millar Library have led the Friends of the Library to create an annual Gary Robinson Leadership Award in his honor. Robinson is the president of his own consulting firm Training Development Programs, a leadership training company. He has also served in many positions including PSU Admissions director, instructor at Portland Community College and the Oregon Institute of Technology, professional consultant, and volunteer with PSU and countless civic organizations.

“Gary is clearly an outstanding graduate of Portland State University and the consummate PSU ambassador,” said Gary F. Purpura, board member of Friends of the Library and the PSU Alumni Association. “His good deeds and amazing spirit reach far beyond the PSU campus to the greater Portland community.”

Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region—partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
