Portland State University is honoring Judy and Scott South with the President's Award for University Advancement tomorrow, May 4, 2004, at the 15th annual PSU Salutes ceremony. PSU Salutes takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at PSU's Smith Union Ballroom, Smith Memorial Student Union, room 355 (1825 SW Broadway).
PSU Salutes is the University's annual event recognizing and honoring outstanding PSU alumni, faculty and friends for their dedication and continued support of both the University and the Portland community.
The President's Award for University Advancement will be given to Judy and Scott South in honor of their generous philanthropic support, volunteer leadership and outstanding advocacy. Both are active contributors to PSU life. Judy has been a member of the PSU Foundation Board since 1996 and served as president of the Board in 2002-2003. Scott serves the School of Business Administration as a member of the Business Advisory Council. The Souths give their financial support as well as their time to the University, including a generous gift for the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology.
"Judy and Scott exemplify the community leaders that inspire all of us to reach deeper and do more to support higher education in Oregon," said Jan Kurtz, executive director of the PSU Foundation. "They are entrepreneurial, analytical, unrelenting and generous in their commitment to unleashing education to change the lives of the next generation, as it changed theirs. Their pledge to the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science, and Technology models this commitment as does Judy's seven years of leadership with the PSU Foundation Board. We will be forever grateful for the way their hearts, minds and vision have altered our landscape."
Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region-partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
