Portland State University is honoring Barre and Robert Stoll with the President's Award for Outstanding Philanthropy tomorrow, May 4, 2004, at the 15th annual PSU Salutes ceremony. PSU Salutes takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at PSU's Smith Union Ballroom, Smith Memorial Student Union, room 355 (1825 SW Broadway).
PSU Salutes is the University's annual event recognizing and honoring outstanding PSU alumni, faculty and friends for their dedication and continued support of both the University and the Portland community.
The President's Award for Outstanding Philanthropy will be given to Barre and Robert Stoll in recognition of their generous support and partnership in building a strong University and urban community. The Stolls created the Stoll Family Public Service Scholarship in the Graduate School of Social Work and provided major support for the Campbell Professorship in Children, Youth & Families. They also helped establish two scholarships for social-work students through the Norman A. and Helen V. Stoll endowment fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. Barre serves on the Frey Scholarship Committee in the Graduate School of Social Work, is a PSU Alumni Advocate and currently serves on the Graduate School of Social Work Advisory Board and Alumni Association.
"Barre and Robert Stoll have supported the University in a number of ways," said Dean James H. Ward, PSU Graduate School of Social Work. "In addition to their generous financial contributions and numerous volunteer hours, their dedication to child welfare, evidenced through their extensive community involvement brings recognition to PSU's excellent performance in educating community leaders who contribute to the region's quality of life."
Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. The University's position in Oregon's economic and cultural center allows for deep community engagement and the creation of partnerships with hundreds of organizations throughout the region-partnerships that give PSU students valuable learning opportunities as they solve real-world problems of business and community. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. PSU serves more students and confers more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
