PSU professor paints possibilities at Roosevelt High
Posted: December 1, 2003

Isaka Shamsud-Din, the James DePreist Professor in Ethnic Art, and PSU graduate student Anne Hesten have spent the last year working to raise awareness of both college and art as future opportunities with students at Roosevelt High School through a unique mural project.

The group mural, which will be unveiled in the coming months, spans the main hallway in the central part of Roosevelt and reflects its diverse student body as well as landmarks of the neighboring North Portland community. The project is also aimed at raising the visibility of art and artists within the school.

This exposure to a professional artist and an aspiring artist is just one of the ways that PSU is partnering with Roosevelt. This past spring, the two schools formalized an agreement to provide additional resources and support to Roosevelt's students pursuing higher education; those who meet the University's admission requirements will automatically receive a renewable scholarship to attend PSU.
