What: Portland State University's Athletics Department is holding its fifth annual “Night of Wine & Roses” to raise money for student-athlete scholarships. A wine tasting is the centerpiece of the event, where attendees can sample wines from several wineries and purchase mixed cases at below–retail prices. This black–tie optional event also features live entertainment, dancing, fine cuisine and both a silent and live auction. Auction items include: trip to San Diego and VIP seats at a Padres baseball game, private winery tour and dinner, and laundry room makeover with a new washer and dryer. Valet parking will be available.
When: Saturday, February 25, 2006, 5 p.m.–midnight
Where: Portland State University, Ballroom, room 355, Smith Memorial Student Union (1825 SW Broadway Ave.).
Cost: Individual tickets are $100; $1,000 for a table of 10.

Background: Highlighting the entertainment at the event are performances by student-athletes, showcasing their talents off the field. “A Night of Wine & Roses” is the premier fundraising event for Portland State’s Athletics Department. This year's goal is to raise $110,000; all proceeds go toward scholarships for the more than 300 student-athletes who participate in varsity sports at Portland State University.
