Portland State University will honor this year's recipients of its top annual awards for faculty excellenceDavid Johnson, Jian Wang, and Erik Bodegomat the spring commencement ceremony this Saturday, June 12, at 3 p.m. in the Rose Garden Arena. David Johnson, professor of History, is winner of the Branford Price Millar Award for Faculty Excellence for demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, instruction, University service and public service, and for exceptional performance in the area of scholarship and research. Professor Johnson, who has served PSU for 22 years, is the managing editor of the Pacific Historical Review journal. Professor Johnson's historical scholarship and abilities as managing editor of the journal have brought great prestige to the University.
Erik Bodegom, professor and department chair of Physics, is this year's recipient of the George Hoffmann Award for distinguished contributions to the University in the areas of instruction, University service and scholarship done in the spirit of humanism, civility and collegiality with particular dedication to students. Over the past 19 years, Professor Bodegom has become an eminent scholar and active inventor and a well-respected collaborator with diverse community connections.
Jian Wang, assistant professor and serials cataloging librarian, is the recipient of Butler Award for Library Faculty Service recognizing excellence of library service to students, faculty and other patrons of the Branford P. Millar Library. Professor Wang has served PSU for five years and is a recognized expert in serials cataloging, using her expertise to improve access to the significant journal collection available through the library. Professor Wang is frequently asked to share her knowledge and skills locally, regionally, nationally and internationally through workshops, presentations and committee service.
