What: Oregon Congressmen Earl Blumenauer (D-Portland) and Greg Walden (R-Hood River) will announce legislation to provide a long-term stewardship plan for Mt. Hood at a press conference at Portland State University. The bill gives a comprehensive approach to the multi-faceted issues on the mountain, including wilderness and wild and scenic river designations, forest and watershed health, transportation, recreation, land exchanges and Tribal history, and will be introduced in Congress next week.

Background: The Mt. Hood legislation is the result of input from three public summits, two-day round table discussions with over 50 stakeholders and experts, and a four-day, 41-mile hike on the Timberline Trail circumnavigating Mt. Hood where both Congressmen met with experts in a variety of fields including hydrology, geology, forestry, wilderness, recreation, Tribal issues, climatology and wildlife giving them extensive information about the challenges facing Mt. Hood.
