PSU students have created a comprehensive advertising and marketing campaign for De Paul Treatment Centers as part of coursework in the Creative Industries Studies' (CIS) Advertising Campaign capstone class.
The senior capstone program, recently ranked eighth in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, is the culminating course in PSU's undergraduate general education curriculum. Each year, some 2,000 students work in multidisciplinary teams under the supervision of faculty and community partners on community-based topics or projects that apply the critical-thinking skills acquired during undergraduate studies to complex real-world issues.
This year, 11 students in the CIS capstone worked as an ad agency under the guidance of creative professionals from Food Chain Films, Alloy Red Brand Interaction Advertising, Opus Creative, Grey Matter Design, Clean Copy, and Revere Printing. Over the course of two academic quarters, the students and industry partners created a new look for De Paul and a theme called "Recognize" that was implemented in De Paul's brochures, print ads, folders, a new website, and an eight-minute documentary film. The campaign elements and teaching and mentoring services donated by the partner companies were valued at over $200,000.
