New York Times, Oregonian Reporters to Discuss Oregon Election Politics at Civic Engagement Breakfast, Oct. 19

What:
Reporters Timothy Egan (New York Times) and Jeff Mapes (The Oregonian), and PSU professor Melody Rose (Hatfield School of Government, Division of Political Science) will discuss “Oregon Blue or Red in November? Electoral Politics in the Northwest: The Who, How, and Why of General Election 2004 Participation.”

The panel will examine how the battle lines are drawn in the battleground states of the Pacific Northwest, who will participate, and what issues matter most. The talk is the first in the 2004–05 Civic Engagement Breakfast Series, sponsored by the Center for Academic Excellence at Portland State University.

When:
Tuesday, October 19, 8:30–10 a.m.

Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 228 (1825 SW Broadway).

Background:
New York Times reporter Timothy Egan won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting for the Times’ series on race in America. Egan is based in Seattle. Oregonian reporter Jeff Mapes covers politics for the state’s largest daily paper. Political science professor Melody Rose is an expert on the presidency, women in politics and voting.
