What:
For the second year in a row, Portland State University will host a Fulbright Gateway Orientation Program for international graduate students and scholars to prepare them for their time of study in the United States. This year's program is expected to have 41 participants from 25 different countries. The Institute of International Education (IIE) and Portland State University have combined their resources to prepare an interesting and rigorous orientation schedule and calendar of events which provides the visiting Fulbright scholars a head start on American culture, including its academic, financial and legal systems. PSU is the only university on the West Coast hosting a Fulbright Gateway Orientation, and is only one of four selected in the United States.
When:
September 7-9, 2005; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.

Background:
The Fulbright Program supports educational exchanges that strengthen understanding and communication between the United States and over 140 countries. More than 1,300 new Foreign Fulbright Fellows enter U.S. academic programs each year. IIE arranges academic placement for most Fulbright nominees and supervises all grantees during their stay in the United States. Four Fulbright Foreign Language teaching assistants (from Russia, Turkey, India & Oman) will spend the 2005-2006 academic year at PSU.
